Just want to make sure, we write on the card we're sending? It's not for our partner to use?

Yes, this is intended to be a card we write in - but if you want to include your note on a separate sheet of paper so that your partner can "re-use" the card, you may do that also - but they will have to find or make an envelope themselves. (";)
