I love interesting salt and pepper shakers and it may have been passed down since my mom has some really cool ones (including a Tardis she refuses to let me have). They have unique ones all over in Thrift shops, all you need to do is find a set that is something that your partner may like and if you feel generous perhaps another profile based surprise.
