I've visited Nathaniel Hawthorne's home in Massachusetts before. I had a similar problem with this swap - I had no books on hand for the genre but did check out a book that started with a "G"from the library.

Response: Hello Dee, I loved Oliver Twist (Charles Dickens) and now Anna Karenina; Jules Verne and Arthur C. Doyle was okay, too. On the other hand, I seriously considered DNFing Jane Austen's books. That was so not my cup of tea. --- So it seems the male authors' classics are more interesting for me.

Comment: How do you decide to unhaul a book that has been on the list?
Response: I usually unhaul book when I don't feel interested in the characters and their stories. I picked up a lot of books for various challenges, bookclubs and so on and realized I don't feel like continuing reading it anymore, so I unhaul. Most of the unhauling this time was YA series I started in 2022 or 2023.

Comment: I loved Emilie Wilde's Encyclopedia! I have read it as ebook and I've been on the hunt for the physical copy since. It will be released in Dutch this autumn and I ordered my copy of the limited edition. I had my doubts about The Spellshop but it looks like I might enjoy that one too!

As much as I love Rick Riordan, I agree that Lost Hero felt like a little bit of a let down after the Percy Jackson series. Percy does pop up in that series, though, and once we got to know the new characters, we enjoyed the series too. I have no idea how many times we have listened or read the different series at this point - my daughter is practically a Percy Jackson encyclopedia! :) Do you think you'll read more of the Dresden Files series from Jim Butcher?
Response: Hello Cindi! I didn't want to spoil things if you had not read the Lost Hero (and other books in the series) - I still have hope now when I know Percy is just away in the other camp :) I think I will read more books from Dresden Files. Sometimes I am so full of female main protagonists, so it's refreshing to follow a man. With his males issues (written by a male author, no less! Because let's be honest, some of the male characters written by female authors can be so unrealistic). / Happy reading!

Response: Thank you for rating! My trip in Egypt was amazing! Although I sun-burned. I loved the catacombs Kom el-Šokafa, it was an interesting place. Fortress Qaitbay could be my number one if it was not just bare walls - all the interior items were moved to citadel in Cairo, because the turists were stealing it :(

Comment: Děkuji for the swap, the list of Czech words, and your nice letter. I really enjoyed reading it. Until nine weeks ago, I lived my entire life in a rural farming area. There were roadside stands and farmers' markets all the time... in the summer and autumn that is. In the winter, there was only one weekly "Farmer's Market" but it wasn't really. It was more like an indoor festival with everything from lamb kabobs ro fried dough but few vegetables.

Comment: I just finished my own chunky book, Fatal Vision by Joe McGinniss which is a true crime book. The audiobook was almost 28 hrs long! So almost 1,000 pages!

Comment: What did you think of the Dresden books? I keep trying to read them, but think the limited series they did on it as ...soured it for me? (I love the tv show).
Response: Is there a TV show? --- I quite like the first book. It's the typical male hero story: there is danger, a few setbacks, hero almost dies (once, twice... many times) and at the end he win. Half-dead. --- I will see what other books will bring.

Comment: Hi Lucie, thanks for your email :) If you like bike riding through the woods you'd definitely want to try Sherwood Pines - it's huge and there are tons of bike trails to explore. Pleasley Pit Tip is a nice walk out and The Red does some really fab food - the guy that owns it has a string of businesses under his belt and all are raved about :) Take care, Deb

Comment: Thank you for your email. Luckily the tracks are luckily not that close. There’s another house and trees in between. The street on the other side is much louder! Oh yes the old airport, the Tempelhofer Feld, is so cool! It’s the only place in the city where you can look really far and see the heaven! I love it. I will definitely go to the restaurants and cafes you searched out, I’ve been to none of them 😅 but I’ve been to all places you would go to except the Fichte bunker. But now I will also go there! It’s so cool to see what other people would do here, you get a totally different view of your place!

Comment: Thanks so much for your letter! The Maid is on my TBR, I DNF'd The Cruel Prince due to triggering material. I love what you did with the stamps! I should try to mix up the fonts I use on my letters! I can't write very legibly for long amounts of words because of arthritis and tremors, but I'd like to get more creative.
Response: Thank you for ❤️ I wanted the book titles to be readable, but didn't want to print the whole letter, so... the stamps were the best option.

Comment: Thank you for sharing the books with me! James Clavell sounds interesting. Have you read the first part Shogun as well? I preordered it from the e-shelf of my library. And the shadow land sounds very interesting too! It also has a German translation from 2018, which is now on my list!
Response: Yes, I have Shogun as a Czech translation from 2009 - it's one thick book of around 1.000 pages. I re-read it recently, because I watched the series from 1980 and needed to compare with the original ^_^
