Comment: Thank you for all of the goodies! You have a good memory! Did your Dad grow up on the airbase in Plattsburgh? We lived at the southern end of Lake Champlain in Ticonderoga for many years. And I grew up in the Binghamton area.
Response: With my dad, the maternal side of the family emigrated from Canada, the paternal side from Italy. My grandfather was killed in action in WW II; before that he worked in a wallpaper mill. My Dad grew up, got out to college in Olean, and then he and my Mom settled in Syracuse.

Comment: First, OMG! I love the envelope! Reminds me of two of my kitties, the gray one Pikachu, and the orange one Aziel! :) and all the goodies!! I love the stickers and bookmark (it's so pretty!) My user name is actually sort of a funny story. Back when I was in my early teens (much more angsty!) I made it. Everyone always said I was a dreamer and that I had my head in the clouds, and I wanted something sort of...catchy? So that's what I came up with! It's sort of stuck ever since, haha. I still really like the name, even if I'm not so angsty or "dreary" anymore :)

Response: Grok was coined by Robert Heinlein in 1961 for his sci fi novel, Stranger in a Strange Land. I only became aware of it in the 1990s, when it came into use in the tech industry. Programmers used it to describe the experience of understanding something after struggling with it awhile. That word, and the word "wonk" were in heavy use. A wonk is someone who has a thrives on minutiae and complexity and who knows a LOT about something. :)

I love the message on one of the stickers. So true, be generous with the stickers. I love all the items, however, the Richard Scarry's birthday post card was my favorite. It took me back to my childhood. lol. Now, I'll probably go and see if I can order a few of his books. I believe I might a few that I may have gotten for my boys when they were little. Thanks for the stickers, the sloth post card, the postal stamps, and of course the Peanut stickers! The bookmark will come in handy for the books I suppose to read this summer. The fall mini painting reminds me of the abstract paintings my oldest son's professor gave us when he graduated from college. She make abstract paintings and mini paintings to give to her students when they graduate. Once again, thanks a bunch!

In fact, I had never read Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn before, and so I read them after James. I read "Remarkably Bright..." and I think the movie was better (currently on Netflix). Upcoming is the annual Big Foot Festival just 15 minutes away, in Marienville PA. There is a Big Foot Hollering Contest you can join.
I visited your neck of the woods last summer and LOVED it. My friend who transplanted there some years back, is always inviting me to come live there. Who knows, maybe some day.

We got great rivers for fishing or swimming, and great snow ski areas (when it snows...). Shopping, not so much. lol

Gig Harbor would be a great place to retire. But yeah, the long rainy season with short, dark days is real and I'm not sure anybody every gets used to it, we just accept it.
I went to Florida this winter and loved it! I think I'll go for a longer stay next winter. I came home to cold rain and strong winds. My body revolted, so I turned up the heat and put on a sundress. Ha!
Dragon boating - a long narrow boat that seats 20, two paddlers on each bench. Paddling in time with each other is key. The tiller stands up in the back of the boat. They have a really long paddle, and they steer the boat. The Puget Sound is a wonderful place to paddle. Every once in awhile we see moon jelly "blooms". Literally thousands of small white translucent jelly fish. It takes my breath away every time I see them. We stop paddling and just glide through the bloom in awe.
SAR - fortunately we almost never have recoveries. It's mostly doing emergency tows for boats that break down, or rescuing paddlers when the wind whips up unexpectantly, and boat inspections.
We recently had three orca whales here in our little harbor, which doesn't happen very often. They mostly stay up North. We have some pods of resident orca whales in the Sound, and they truly are a sight to see. Did you see any when you visited here?
Is the Farallone Island book you mentioned The Devil's Teeth by Susan Casey, or Neighborhood Sharks by Katherine Roy? I'll see if our library has them.

Ahhh, I recall teaching my son, now 22, how to drive. I was more nervous than he was, LOL. Today was a high of 34, and this morning when I awoke it was 23. All part of living in the mountains. In two days, it will be 76. We have a short spring. Winter never wants to let go and then when it does, it will be summer. I hope your temps have stayed in the normal range for you. Response: I know! I grew up in snow land and it still feels weird for Christmas to be green. OTOH, people really decorate their houses amazingly where it doesn't snow. Awesome light shows. :)

Comment: This was supposed to be all teal and several other colours had more than a minor presence. In addition, no care was taken to make this artistic at all. The embellishments didn't have any theme or relevance to the background or each other nor were they teal. It was basically embellishment slapping. I gave her a chance to resend and she declined. The swap coordinator agreed that this did not meet the requirements. ETA: That's actually TWO differing opinions. Mine and the coordinator. And the FACT (not opinion) remains that no matter the style, the elements you added were not teal as per swap guidelines.
Response: I made this with care and was happy to send it. It was an abstract piece; I chose the embellishments purposively. I chose not to re-send, because I am satisfied with the quality of what I made. This is a matter of differing opinions.
