QnT FALL HSTS USA 2016 10-3-16 THRU 10-24-16 --ONE PARTNER --12 different HSTS HSTS = half square triangles FABRIC CHARMS = a certain cut of fabric – for this swap 4 ½”X 4 ½” SQUARING-UP = cutting your HST to 4”X4” with equal amounts of light fabric on one side and dark fabric on the other side with a diagonal seam running between the two Light side fabric options: white, off-white, cream, tan, beige, bone (print or solid or tone-on-tone) Darker side fabric options: fall colors, fall prints, tone-on-tone, no solids (leaves, nuts, etc) 1.Pick one light 4 ½”X4 ½” fabric charm and one darker 4 ½”X4 ½” fabric charm. Place them right sides together. Draw a pencil line on the wrong side of the lighter square from the upper left hand corner to the lower right hand corner. 2.Stitch a scant ¼” seam on either side of the pencil line 3.Cut on the pencil line 4.Open both HSTS and press to the darker side 5.Square-up each HST to 4”X4” 6.Keep one HST of the pair for yourself and stack the other up to send to your partner 7.Do steps 1 thru 6 twelve times to make twelve pairs of HSTS. You may use any one print only 3 times in your set of 12 different HSTS, as long as you do not send your partner any two HSTS exactly alike. Variety is the spice of life! Note: Sometimes I have trouble sticking to a scant ¼” seam so I often start with fabric charms larger like 5”X5” which gives me more error allowance. As long as you square them up to 4”X4” before mailing it doesn’t really matter what side fabric charm you start with. Note: The bigger the difference/contrast between the light side and the darker side the better. If we have enough interest in this swap we will do it at least 3 times before November 1, 2016. That will give us a few weeks to finish up any project we may be working on for Thanksgiving. | |
